During my first semester at Olin, I took a class called Design Nature. For our final project, we were given the task to create a remote controlled toy inspired by nature that transported something. Our target audience was fourth graders. My team and I chose to use a kangaroo as our inspiration and interviewed several fourth graders to see what type of toys they liked. We decided to focus on making our game very interactive with the fourth graders so rather than just controlling a kangaroo by remote, they would have to touch the kangaroo itself. The kids had to hold a platform that the kangaroo hopped on and pass it from student to student with the platform. This was my first major project at Olin, I learned how to work in a team, how to take ideas from paper to sketch models, to a prototype. We also learned how to clearly present our ideas to others and explain our thought process in the decisions we made.
